Neurodivergence: Creating Opportunities for Young People to Thrive

Neurodivergence is an increasingly important conversation, yet many young people still struggle to access the understanding and support they need. Across Greater Manchester, an estimated 15–20% of people are neurodivergent, including those with ADHD or autism. Despite this, many continue to face barriers to inclusion, confidence, and well-being.

Our Youth Hub exists to change that.

We are committed to empowering neurodivergent young people by providing a safe, supportive environment where they can build confidence, develop new skills, and make positive changes in their lives. Above all, we strive to improve the mental health and well-being of every young person who walks through our doors.

Through our Youth Hub, we have met many young people living with anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. By encouraging social connection, offering gym sessions, and providing consistent guidance and encouragement, we have seen remarkable personal growth and resilience.

One inspiring example is Erin.

Before joining the Youth Hub, Erin experienced severe anxiety and depression. For two years, she rarely left her home, feeling trapped by the impact her mental health had on her confidence and daily life.

With the support of Gail Lavery and Charlie Stansfield, alongside her own determination and resilience, Erin gradually rebuilt her confidence and found her voice. Today, she actively takes part in our Youth Hub activities and is participating in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme, a journey that once seemed impossible.

Erin's story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when young people are given belief, encouragement, and the right support. Sometimes, all they need is someone to believe in them until they can believe in themselves.

As Gail Lavery explains:

"I believe that every young person deserves to be valued, supported, understood, and accepted for who they are. For neurodivergent people especially, it's important that they're not expected to fit into somebody else's idea of 'normal'."

We are proud to champion young people who may have felt overlooked or misunderstood. Our Youth Hub provides a place where neurodivergent young people are accepted without judgment, encouraged to embrace their strengths, and supported to reach their full potential.

Because everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive—not by fitting into someone else's definition of normal, but by being valued for who they are.
